Well my boat is done and ready I decided to get out and do some scouting and possibly some shooting.

Keep in mind we still had ice a couple days ago.

There is a little backwater lake not too far from me so i drove the 4 miles of rutted out 2 track at 3 mph and finally launched off a shallow crappy dirt ramp that was so bad my whole truck was in the water to get deep enough.

fired up the generator to run my 7 halo lights, turned on my depthfinder, strung my longbow and was off to explore.

the water Temp was 38 degrees. with all the rain the water was pretty darn black and hard to see at 5 feet deep. after about an hour of trolling around i found section of the lake that was only about 1-2 feet deep with vegitation on the bottom and got into some dogfish (bowfin). Ended up shooting at 18 super little ones and 2 good ones. landed the 2 big ones and 3 of the little ones (i got no excuses for my poor shooting....lol). after 2 hours on the water i was getting cold as the temp was 39 degrees so i loaded the boat and headed home.

Cant wait to get into carp and warmer weather but it was a nice start.

Not bad. It's killing me to not have my lights yet. Supposed to get warmish next week and I won't be ready. I guess that what I get for putting off getting them until early april.

Your lucky you can even get out. Everything is flooded around hear, the boat ramps are impossiable and the river is "shut down" due to fast and high water. Should be out there killin em first chance i get
