Bow to rod

Hey all, I'm trying to get into bow fishing and hopefully I'll be rigged up just following Christmas. I was wondering if anyone has tried sticking a fish but instead of having the reel on the bow you have the line running from the arrow to a rod and reel? I thought it might be interesting to see it done.

I saw some people do it with sharks but I don't know if I would recommend it. Just incase of snap back. Also what kind of reel on the rod?

Have an old set of Fred Bear films on DVD. That's how Fred did it back in the 50's, 60's. Seemed to work OK but he put line out in the water before shooting. Just get a bow reel of your choice with heavy line and go stick em.
