Just went duck hunting for the fist time last weekend for opener in central michigan. Had a blast even if it rained the whole time. At least the rain kept the ducks low, I even managed to shoot 3. Just wondering if anyone else went?

That was probably the worst mistake you could have made. Get ready to get the check book out, because your going to need a few doz decoys, a call, good clothes, and a lot of other gear. :) :)

Your gonna need your own though so you can go when they can't. It might take one more hunt or two but you'll get pulled in just like I did.
Where abouts did you go to last weekend?

reedsburg dam. we camped there friday to sunday. lots of rain so the tent kinda got wet and was hard to stay dry. probably saw around 30 ducks morning on opener a few at dusk and tons the next morning. Too bad they were all to high. :thumbsd: . also it stunk to wear glasses, they kept fogging up and the rain drops would make it look like ducks comming in all the time. At least i can still see good without em.

I was up by oscoda at our deer cabin hunting beaver ponds. It's nice to be away from the people sometimes. Only saw about a doz ducks all day, but they all wanted to be where I was.

thats awesome.Right at day break it sounded like on going shooting for about 10 min. super fun. and we really didnt have anyone set up by us. only about 12-14 boats and everyone spread out pretty good. it was crazy opening morning the ducks had no where to go, because of the hunters, so the had to keep circling

Just wait for the southern opener. You'll have guys come in a half hour before shooting time and set up 80 yards down wind from you. Don't worry about it though, because they usually don't know what they are doing and will flare birds over to you. Weather keeps changing for the better for Saturday. Hopefully that cold front hurries up and gets here a day or 2 earlier.

Haha to be honest I have no idea what I'm doing. But we get there around 3 and try not to set up on anyone. Lol don't want them to shoot my birds lol. At least I got a sport for every season now!

Make sure it's got public land along the shore where you are hunting, or you need permission from the landowner.

yeah i looked up the location for public hunting land. so we should have no problem finding a good stretch
Sounds good. Just wanted to make sure you knew that hunting and fishing rights on inland water isn't the same. Just because a lake or river has public access doesn't mean it's open to hunting. I disagree with the law, but it is what it is.

It was a nice day to be sitting out but not so much duck wise. It's like they know when opening time is cuz we had like 15 low fliers about 5 min to open. Then my friends dad kept calling about what parts we needed to replace the baring we blew and every time he answered I looked over the ducks would fly over. Lol guess they will still be out there for next time
