generator vs LEDs

I've had a boat with a generator and lights and you get over the noise. Its nice to have constant power but I want ya'llsinput on LEDs cause my next boat I build I want it to be " quiet" but last a long time without spending out the butt for a big gen.

You can run LED's off a generator with a converter. Thats what quite a few people do.
Good bright LEDs are going to be very expensive...but they are a one time deal. They have very little if any internal parts that can go bad. And the diodes themselves will probably outlast you. The downside to this is the batteries. A good LED setup could take up to 4 12v batteries which gets expensive. Another quiet route is a Honda/Yamaha inverter generator and low wattage HID lights. You will get a little more light out of this for about the same cost. But requires a generator witch makes a little noise however the Hondas make no more than a quiet purr. HID lights also have a ballast, igniter, and capacitor that could require replacing over time. The bulbs also will need replacing on occasion which could be expensive depending on the type of light.
It's all just personal preference.
Yea were do you get HPS lights from? I think that's what I'm gonna run next with a gen.
Message sent *******.
If your looking at plug n play. Econolight is good.

I have 2 400w hps, i will get some more here soon but i love them. I dont hardly look in my halos anymore. I can see fish way further than what i can shoot with these lights.

]More food for thought.

Hps and mh lights put out way more lumens than led.

The benefits i see from running leds are no generator and no noise. But if your running a fan boat. You already have the noise so is the led setup still as beneficial?

Also for the people who fish all.night or 6+ hours. Running time on the 50w leds diminishes after you have many of them setup. So now your running a genny with a converter to keep the batteries charged. So your back to noise.

Or if your troller boat needs a converter your back to a generator.

If your running the generator why not run mh or hps?

Compare 1 customfitz led at 90$ or 1 150w hps w cap at 65$

The 150hps puts out 3x the light of an 50w led.

I honestly could care less who runs what light. Everyone has their own reasons. I dont understand why people order the ac led which requires the genny when for less money you can get a 150w hps that weighs the same. And puts out 3x the lumens.

If i were to run leds i would want to be completely silent. But my tm needs a charger on the batteries for.the amount of time i fish.

So my ? Is why run leds on a fan boat or airboat. OR why runs 120v leds when hps are less $ and more lumens?

I am not knocking leds in any way. I have fished over them and believe they do the same as a halo. I will actually be ordering some to go on my duck boat which i take to the shoals and ponds so i can stay quiet while running just a smaller tm

I posted that on a different forum and copy/pasted it here.

In a nutshell.

Leds are $$. Way more lumens in a mh or hps setup.

If your only fishing.for a few hours at a time in a troller boat. It might work for you but dont be mad when your batterys dim and its time for you to leave when you are seeinf lots of fish.

Only place i see benefiting from leds is going to be airboars with a alternator charging the batterys so you dont need a genny.
I'm not an LED fan either because of their lack of ability to penetrate mucky water. If water was clear where I shoot I would run LEDs. If you set them up with the proper number of batteries you can run all night. But I don't mind the sound if a decent low db generator and I like the extra light you get from the halogens or HID lights. The airboat application seems like a good idea as well seems how your using an already present power source. Like I've said in earlier posts it all just personal preference.

The LED's we sell right now are a happy medium. They will penetrate murky water to a point (I'm not gonna lie LED's arn't for everyone.) They will penetrate clear or semi clear water amazingly. But like you said if you shoot extremely muddy water they might not work so well. So to solve this we are designing the first ever warm white (not a yellow as HPS, and not as white as halo/mh.) 27 watt and 48 watt LED. The 48's will be basically equivalent to a 50 watt but in a 27 watt casing. We are eventually going to sell all LED lights (bars, shooting lights, etc.) in warm white. In April we should have the 27's and 48's in Warm white ready to ship.
The waters I'm in generally have 6"-2' of visibility and I classify that as pretty mucky. I can see how a warner LED could really help. Might change my mind on them if I can see them in action.

^this. Econolight 150s will be more than you ever need. Shot on 400 boat and wasn't impresses

What didn't you like about the 400s. I think they put off way too much glare and felt they were blinding me looking into the water. Needed sunglasses haha.
I personally on felt like it shined more of the bank rather that the water. Just think you can get away with less lights with the 400s. My buddy went from 8 150s to 4 400s. I spaced my 150s out a bit and don't have an issue
Ya think i'm gonna run the econolight that nuffdaddy was talking about in the 150w lights. What do ya'll think 6 or 8
8 with caps.

They draw half the amps then the ones without!

^this. They are the $60 ones. Save a lot of money on the generator. What size was your boat again *******??
That would be more than enough. But remember you get what you pay for. Not saying that's a bad generator at all. But it won't even compare to a Honda or a yamaha. I couldn't afford to spend $1000 on a generator but I wanted something that would last. I bought a slightly used (less than 20 hours) northstar 2700 watt from my uncle. Its a Honda engine but not the generator itself. I think it's close to $500 new.

Ya we use a Honda 2000i to power our cabin. Full tank lasts over 10 hours. I know that the champion wouldnt be that quiet but surprisingly there not that loud. I know someone that has one and it's fairly quiet. You don't have to yell over top of it.
