You can run LED's off a generator with a converter. Thats what quite a few people do.

I'm not an LED fan either because of their lack of ability to penetrate mucky water. If water was clear where I shoot I would run LEDs. If you set them up with the proper number of batteries you can run all night. But I don't mind the sound if a decent low db generator and I like the extra light you get from the halogens or HID lights. The airboat application seems like a good idea as well seems how your using an already present power source. Like I've said in earlier posts it all just personal preference.

The LED's we sell right now are a happy medium. They will penetrate murky water to a point (I'm not gonna lie LED's arn't for everyone.) They will penetrate clear or semi clear water amazingly. But like you said if you shoot extremely muddy water they might not work so well. So to solve this we are designing the first ever warm white (not a yellow as HPS, and not as white as halo/mh.) 27 watt and 48 watt LED. The 48's will be basically equivalent to a 50 watt but in a 27 watt casing. We are eventually going to sell all LED lights (bars, shooting lights, etc.) in warm white. In April we should have the 27's and 48's in Warm white ready to ship.

That would be more than enough. But remember you get what you pay for. Not saying that's a bad generator at all. But it won't even compare to a Honda or a yamaha. I couldn't afford to spend $1000 on a generator but I wanted something that would last. I bought a slightly used (less than 20 hours) northstar 2700 watt from my uncle. Its a Honda engine but not the generator itself. I think it's close to $500 new.

Ya we use a Honda 2000i to power our cabin. Full tank lasts over 10 hours. I know that the champion wouldnt be that quiet but surprisingly there not that loud. I know someone that has one and it's fairly quiet. You don't have to yell over top of it.

I feel like 8 lights would be a little overkill on a 14 footer. Maybe not.

8 27 watt LED's are plenty on a 14'. 8 HPS would be a super bright floating yellow light in the water.
