If your looking at plug n play. Econolight is good.

I have 2 400w hps, i will get some more here soon but i love them. I dont hardly look in my halos anymore. I can see fish way further than what i can shoot with these lights.

]More food for thought.

Hps and mh lights put out way more lumens than led.

The benefits i see from running leds are no generator and no noise. But if your running a fan boat. You already have the noise so is the led setup still as beneficial?

Also for the people who fish all.night or 6+ hours. Running time on the 50w leds diminishes after you have many of them setup. So now your running a genny with a converter to keep the batteries charged. So your back to noise.

Or if your troller boat needs a converter your back to a generator.

If your running the generator why not run mh or hps?

Compare 1 customfitz led at 90$ or 1 150w hps w cap at 65$

The 150hps puts out 3x the light of an 50w led.

I honestly could care less who runs what light. Everyone has their own reasons. I dont understand why people order the ac led which requires the genny when for less money you can get a 150w hps that weighs the same. And puts out 3x the lumens.

If i were to run leds i would want to be completely silent. But my tm needs a charger on the batteries for.the amount of time i fish.

So my ? Is why run leds on a fan boat or airboat. OR why runs 120v leds when hps are less $ and more lumens?

I am not knocking leds in any way. I have fished over them and believe they do the same as a halo. I will actually be ordering some to go on my duck boat which i take to the shoals and ponds so i can stay quiet while running just a smaller tm

I posted that on a different forum and copy/pasted it here.

In a nutshell.

Leds are $$. Way more lumens in a mh or hps setup.

If your only fishing.for a few hours at a time in a troller boat. It might work for you but dont be mad when your batterys dim and its time for you to leave when you are seeinf lots of fish.

Only place i see benefiting from leds is going to be airboars with a alternator charging the batterys so you dont need a genny.

I dont feel like you can have too many. As little power as those 150s draw a 3000w champion genny from lowes that is 300$ would still only be half load with 10 of them.

ou can always start with a few and add more if you like.

And i highly suggest the genny at lowes. Mine sits in the boat year around uncovered and unsheltered and still starts first pull. Quiet enough to.hold a normal conversation on the deck

Remember that HPS use more power that what the bulb does. After warming up the 150s use close to 200watts I believe and warm up is a little over 250watts. Still plenty of power in the champion to run 10-12 of them though.
True. My 400s ive designates them 500w of power apiece.

I was originally thinking 4 400s and a converter which would be roughly 2700w at full load on converter and all lights warmed up.

Then maybe a led or 2 in the back just because i like lights lol.

I have 2 400s now. Have 4 custom housings about to be on the way. As soon as my taxes come in i will be getting them shipped to me. Cant wait for em.

I will say this,

alot of people who start out with 150s end up later upgrading to 400s. If you get 400s from the start your one step ahead of the game!

also with less 400s you also have less wiring to deal with.

Custom housings 100$
Digital Ballasts 75$
HPS Bulb 10$

Being able to see the fish further than 3ft from the boat.
$Priceless.

:)

Realistically if you add it up.

Housings will cost you 85$ - 125$ depending on who you go with.
Digital Ballasts 400w will run 75$ - 125$ depending on the brand you choose.
Bulbs are 7$ - 12$ buying them online vs local

So roughly you can have 4 400w hps in custom housings and digital ballasts for as little as 680$. Which comes out to 200,000 lumens. And runs efficiently at a little less than 2000w.

50w LEDs run around 100$ per. Some are more than others. EBay has some for cheaper but on average your looking at 80$ - 120$ per light. To equal the lumen output you would need 40 50w LEDs. Which surprisingly comes out to roughly. 2000w. But now you have a cost of...4000$.

Of course most will get good coverage with 10 50w LEDs which I believe some vendors run a discount when buying ten of them and you can get them all for under 800$.

Some are happier with the smaller LEDs which will come out costing less,

. I am not bashing LEDs, in case it comes across like that. It all comes down to personal preference.I mean some guys are more rthan content with a small flash light on their bows.

Also, for smaller boats.

I know from experience, weight hurts you.

3 battery's mounted low in the boat is a lot better than 1 generator at half the weight sitting on the bench.

Also, I'd your not fishing for huge amounts of time (like all night long) and your in a smaller boat.

Realistically LEDs and a troller would be ideal. Because you would likely be done fishing before the lights dim or the troller loses significant thrust.

There is no right answer, its all up to what your content with. How you fish, the time, and what you want.

Whether it be LEDs in a 1448, or hps in a 2072 fan boat and all in between or vice versa If your happy with what yah got. Then I'm happy with what you got!
