Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. I've been a looker for a while now but finally decided to join in. I'm going into my 3rd season of bowfishing and would like some input on how I'm setting up my lights. I've been using a welded deck that I can brace on top of the front of a jon boat with (4) 500watt halogen shop lights pulled by a 2500 rated watt generator. I've looked at going into LEDs but I'm more of a weekend warrior and not a big time bowfisherman so I dont have the $ nor resources to go that route yet (right now we're just using a 14ft w/ a 9hp outboard and a trolling motor). I would like to add some more lights to the deck though along with trying to find a loophole in the brightness area. Is there a way I can replace the 500watt bulbs in these walmart shop lights with like 200-300watt bulbs? That way I could add a few more lights and keep the wattage low on my generator. Is there a certain site you guys know that sells halogen bulbs? I'll have to make sure the lengths are correct as well on the replacement bulbs. Thanks guys!

welcome to the site , this is my first reply so here goes. yes you can change them as long as there t-3.Lower wattage bulb in higher wattage housing is ok, dont put higher wattage bulbs in lower wattage housings. I just picked up 2 more lights (500 watt) and a 6 pack of 300 watt rough service bulbs at menards. the bulbs were like $8. if I remember right and they come in a hard case with padding that's reusable. I'm switching the 500's on the side of mine to 300 watt so i can run more lights too.
