Weight of bow is measured as apples to oranges among people. There is no set weight for everywhere. Here where I am the fish come in from bay the first of May. Out of the ice cold water with 30lbs the arrow will just bounce off them. i shoot 50lbs from shore. When mid june hits or in boat I shoot 37 pounds and i back it down some come july as the carp turn soft. Need a little more weight the farther you have to shoot away from the boat or if the fish are deep. I have 3 bows that are highly ajustable on the fly so I am ready for whetever I choose to bowfish on any givin day.

I will be shooting 150lb crossbow an hope to stick some big flathead catfish with some tough hide. been practicing on a block target at 10 yards an only go in a few inches with the barb removed. regular arrows go thru the block at that range so think I will be ok. my sons been shooting a 65lb Hoyt at fish where we shoot an no problem getting arrow back out of the bottom.

My PSE is set at 60lbs & my new bow will probably be set around the same poundage. I haven't seen the purpose built fishing bow's before. Going off the numbers posted here I'm guessing in general they lbs isn't that high?

Where I fish you don't get the chance to take close up shots so having the heavier poundage works out alright. The average shot is around the 10mtr's. I've spooled out many time's with the 80 odd feet I have

With my 30-35lb bow Ive got good hitting power to about 25' in shallow water. Most of my shots are under 10' though with a lot of them within 2 feet of the boat. My are would fall of at the end of the night if I pulled 50-60 lbs.

Please read in Arnold Schwarzenegger Voice." Don't be such a girly man" By the way the PSE Wave XL also has No Leff Off. When I was in my 20's and the IBO first came into existences pretty much everyone shot 85-87# in competition. So a decade of way to high draw weight has permanently changed my muscle / bone mass. My wife shoots 25# and still gets good fish.

My deer hunting bow is set at 58lbs never felt the need for more.
If I pulled back 50-60 lbs 200 times in a night id need surgery. Lol
