Been bowhunting for 30+ years....started on the fishies last year out of a canoe. Moved up this year to a 15' fiberglass semi V just mounted a front troller and a 9.5 Evinrude on the back this last weekend.

Looking forward to finding some clear water for night time hunting. Currently running 6ea 27W leds for quiet running. Have been fairly successful in the daytime. Mostly all commons.

Just wanted to say hi and learn what I can from the pros :D

hows that 9.5 push your boat? I got alittle bit bigger boat and looking to put a 40hp on it. I wanna be able to cruise
I know it's not what you asked, but I have a 40 on my 16 foot and it cruises. With 2 guys, bowfishing gear, 250lbs of fish, and about 20gal of water in the bilge we jumped up on step and were running over 30mph.

That sounds great. It moves the boat ok. I'm not looking for speed. Of course now that I moved the batteries to the rear and the motor on it plus me in the back it rides around with the nose in the air a bit :D

I didn't try to run it as fast as it would go either. It has a tendency to pop out of forward if I don't hold the gear selector down.

What do you guys do about that?

I don't know anything about outboards. I just take all my stuff to a mechanic so I know it's done right. I don't want to be stranded 5 miles out in the great lakes because I forgot a screw.

I do a lot of hunting and fishing out on the Saginaw bay, and it would take a lot of batteries to get you back from the middle of it. Lol.
Hope you figure out what's wrong with it.

Thanks. I'm not sure there's anything wrong per se. As long as I'm trying to haul butt to fast it seems to be fine for a while. It's a 1968 motor so I'm sure there's some wear on some of the parts. I think it's the vibration along with the tension that allows it go go back to neutral. I'll figure it out.

what kind of motor is it? could be an old clutch, bad lower unit or even maybe prop. hub. does it rev. I would take it in, but if it works fine for you just leave it. I know it stinks to be down river with dead batt, not fun. We had to resort to pulling ourselfs up river by the trees that were over hanging. Needless to say make sure you know your batts are charged and they are deepcycle, and dont trust anyone elses batts. even if you have a charger on board.

Yep, I have 2 new batteries that I keep charged between trips. As well as two paddles on board that move the boat faster than the small troller used to before the new switch.

I won't be stranded anywhere any time soon.
