I have been bowfishing for a few years, up here in AK we can really only shoot pike, so that’s what I shoot. I do ok, mostly rafting in and hunting around or walking banks and shooting from there. I’ve landed a few really good ones so far and a bunch of smaller ones.
it’s sort of a way to get fish when they aren’t biting. I shoot recurve only, I have a basic wooden takedown at 45lbs with an AMS reel, I just shoot off the trad rest.
My normal trad bow is 60lbs but I never saw a need for that for the type of bowfishing I can do here, it’s generally all done in the shallows within 3 feet of water or less.
