1/4" and 2x4s. Braced like a figure 8

Plenty stable for me. Its bolted to the boat with brackets on the port and starboard sides in the front and back. I don't have any problems with stability.

I'll bet not! I guess you could add some ballast to the back of the boat to keep it more stable if you needed to.

Hahaha. Surprisingly I've never lost anybody off my Jon boat yet. I've had 4 guys up front too. It's a 1442.
